This week I put together a top 10 list of some of the best songs that came out in 2009 that I really enjoy.
1. The first one being I’m Yours by Jason Mraz. I love this just cool island feel this song has, and it just instantly brings me to summer.
2. Now I’m a sucker for pop punk/emo music thus you will find the next group fits right on this list with The All-American Rejects song Gives You Hell.
3. Kings Of Leon’s Use Somebody dominated the airwaves all summer long.
4. I love Kanye West, I think he’s a musical genius and when you throw Jay-Z and Rihanna into the mix you have an amalgam of creative talent flowing.
5. Coldplay’s Viva La Vida was on heavy rotation on my iPod and the buildup in the beginning of this song is only one of the sole reasons why they are constantly given awards.
6. So overall I was a little disappointed with Green Day’s 21st Century Breakdown, but in their defense following up American Idiot was going to be next to impossible anyway. 21 Guns however is just an amazing stand out track on par with “Boulevard of Broken Dreams”
7. The Frays cover of Kanye West’s Heartless just completely took the song and flipped it on it’s head.
8. Kings & Queen by 30 Seconds To Mars is relatively new to my iPod however I am just love with the track and the build up in the song.
9. Dashboard Confessionals Belle of the Boulevard is a piano driven rock song and that’s really something that doesn’t happen enough in today’s music.
10. You and Me by the Dave Matthews Band is a love ballad about leaving everything behind and just running away with your significant other. I was fortunate to witness the first live performance of this song in Connecticut this summer. The arrangement and the “chords” that Dave uses are just really different and the whole song builds up nicely.
These 10 songs from 2009 should be on everyone’s iPod.
