Album Review:

Swiss Army Bro-Mance

This split EP was originally going to be sold on the fall Dashboard Confessional/New Found Glory tour. However that bromancetour was canceled so the album has just been released. I personally could not be happier with the Dashboard Confessional/New Found glory split album entitled The Swiss Army Bro-Mance, which is a play off of the song and Dashboard album called The Swiss Army Romance.

Each band contributed two songs to the album. Dashboard covered New Found Glory’s Better Off Dead and All About Her from NFG’s self-titled album. NFG covered The Swiss Army Romance which comes from the album of the same title and Saints and Sailors which was originally released on The Places You Have Come To Fear The Most.

Starting with Carrabba and company, the songs sound nothing and I truly mean nothing, like the originals. If I didn’t already know that these were cover songs I might be lead to believe that they were original Dashboard material. Carrabba has filled these songs with electronic drum beats and keys. The guitars are just in the background and are almost never brought to the forefront. I was expecting was more of just a stripped down versions of the NFG songs, with acoustic guitar, what I got has blown me away and really proves that Chris Carrabba is a musical genius.

New Found Glory’s half is much more what I expected. The first song is The Swiss Army Romance and it begins with half of the verse played on an acoustic guitar before that is thrown away. Next we get a blast of feed back as an electric is plugged in and now we have New Found Glory. New Found Glory takes Carrabba’s songs and fill them with heavy distortion and screaming. They do however follow the same chord progression that Dashboard did in the original records, which is were the two bands diff.

Over all this Split EP was truly amazing and a must own for fans of either band. Both bands did an amazing job at taking what I already knew and loved and took it into a totally different direction.
